Deal details

Leeds United signed Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo in a deal worth €40million, valued at £34m and $45m by the source. The defender has signed a contract until 2031, securing his long-term future at Elland Road.

Inter Milan regret opens door for Leeds United

Inter Milan had pushed hard to sign Muharemovic during the summer and had even agreed personal terms with the player, only for talks with Sassuolo to collapse. Leeds capitalised on that opening and moved quickly to secure his signature.

According to TeamTalk, Inter remain very attentive to his performances and have reactivated their interest after missing out. The Italian champions are preparing for the future, especially with Alessandro Bastoni widely expected to leave the club in 2027. Muharemovic remains high on their list.

Barcelona interest adds to Leeds transfer challenge

Barcelona are also among the clubs monitoring Muharemovic after following him during the summer and checking on his progress again this season. The Catalan club's interest inevitably raises memories of previous business between Leeds and Barcelona, most notably the sale of Raphinha in 2022.

Leeds will be determined to avoid any conversation about an early exit. The report is unequivocal, stating the club have absolutely zero intentions of allowing him to leave and are not interested not even for a hefty and quickfire profit. That is the correct stance given his contract until 2031.

Tarik Muharemovic proving instant hit at Elland Road

Leeds supporters have taken to Muharemovic quickly. He has been portrayed as an ever-present in Daniel Farke's defence, with traits that paint the picture of a modern Premier League centre-half: aggressive in duels, mobile across the turf, commanding in the air and assured in possession.

His profile as a left-footed central defender adds further value, a commodity that remains highly sought after across Europe. Leeds appear to have found a player capable of anchoring the back line now while also offering major resale potential further down the line. Radio Sarajevo's glowing assessment described him as one of the best representatives of his country has seen.

His contribution has not been limited to defensive work. One goal and one assist already suggest he can influence games at both ends, while his Fantasy Premier League standing as the third-highest-scoring defender underlines how quickly he has adapted. More importantly for Leeds, he has helped underpin an unbeaten start in the top flight.

What happens next

What happens next may depend less on current interest and more on timing. Inter's long-term planning appears linked to a possible 2027 defensive reshuffle, while Barcelona's admiration may develop or fade according to their own sporting priorities and finances. For now, Leeds can afford to stay calm.

Talking points

  • Leeds must stand firm and not sell Muharemovic for any profit, as they have done with previous star players.
  • Inter's failed summer move shows they rate him highly, but their loss was Leeds' gain.
  • Barcelona's interest is flattering but Leeds must avoid another Raphinha situation.
