Como Make Formal Bid for Chelsea's Chalobah
Serie A side Como have reportedly submitted an offer for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, according to Sky Italy. The bid is understood to be worth €25 million plus €2 million in add-ons, totalling €27 million.
Background: Chalobah's Chelsea Career
Trevoh Chalobah, 25, came through Chelsea's academy and made his first-team debut in 2021. He has since made 63 appearances for the club, scoring five goals. However, his game time has been limited under Mauricio Pochettino and now Enzo Maresca.
Last season, Chalobah made 17 appearances in all competitions, starting 13 Premier League matches. He was often used as a rotational option in central defence and occasionally at right-back.
Tactical Context: Como's Ambition Under Fabregas
Como, now managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, have been active in the transfer market as they aim to establish themselves in Serie A. Fabregas has implemented a possession-based style, and Chalobah's ball-playing ability from the back would suit that system.
Chalobah is comfortable in a back three or back four, offering flexibility. His passing accuracy of 89.2% last season in the Premier League demonstrates his composure in possession.
Transfer Market Context
The reported €27m fee would represent a significant profit for Chelsea, who developed Chalobah through their academy. For comparison, Chelsea sold academy graduate Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan for €34m in 2021. The fee is also in line with Serie A defensive signings; for example, Torino paid €25m for Perr Schuurs in 2022.
Fantasy Premier League Impact
Chalobah is not a popular FPL asset, with less than 1% ownership. Even if he moves to Como, he won't be available in FPL as the game only covers Premier League clubs. However, his departure could open the door for other Chelsea defenders like Levi Colwill or Axel Disasi to gain more game time.
What's Next for Chelsea
Chelsea are reportedly willing to sell Chalobah to raise funds for their own incomings. The club have been linked with several defenders and forwards this window. If the bid is accepted, Chalobah would join a growing list of academy graduates to depart Stamford Bridge in recent years.
- Offer reported at €25m plus €2m add-ons.
- Chalobah made 17 appearances last season.
- Como managed by Cesc Fabregas.
