Manchester United Now Favourites to Land £60m Left-Back Target

Why Both Clubs Need a Left-Back

Chelsea's situation is more acute. The Blues parted with Marc Cucurella in the January window, leaving Ben Chilwell as the only senior left-back. United's current options — Shaw, Diogo Dalot (on the right) — lack the pace and stamina for 90-minute intensity. The £60m target, a specialist left-back, fits the profile of a modern full-back: quick, comfortable in possession, and capable of making late runs into the box.

Manchester United, currently third in the table, trail Manchester City by eight points but hold two games in hand. A reliable left-back could solidify the defence, which has conceded 32 goals – the fourth-best record in the league. Chelsea, languishing in eighth, need upgrades across the pitch to challenge for Champions League places next season.

For fantasy Premier League managers, a new attacking full-back at United would be a popular budget pick if priced around £5.0m. Clean sheets and assist potential drive points. Chilwell's ownership has already risen to 18% based on his fixture run, but his fragility makes him a risk.

Reports indicate that United have opened discussions with the selling club, while Chelsea's interest has cooled. The player, described as a dynamic defender, is keen on a move to the Premier League. Personal terms are not yet agreed.

The summer window opens on June 14. Both clubs are expected to finalise 70% of their business by late July. United's move for a left-back could accelerate once the season concludes.
